Eminem Early 2000s

After becoming famous from the 'Slim Shady LP' he went on to release two new albums between 2000-2002. In May 2000 he released 'The Marshall Mathers LP' this album went on to sell 1.76 million copies in the first week and broke the records for fastest-selling hip hop album and the fastest-selling solo album in United States history.  the first single on this album was 'The Real Slim Shady' and was a major success. This was the first of many of his songs to create major controversy by insulting celebraties such as Christine Aguilera,  Fred Durst and Carson Daly.

Other songs on this album include, 'The Way I Am' (which talks about the pressures of his record company) and 'My Name Is'. The song 'Stan shows Eminem as a derranged fan who engs up killing himself and his pregnant girlfriend. This song was named as the third greatest rap song of all time by 'Q Magazine'. For the 43rd Grammy Awards Eminem preformed with Elton John.  In May 2002 he released a new album called 'The Eminem Show'. like his other albums it soon went to the top of the charts and selling over 1.332 million copies in the first week of sales. It included hit songs such as 'Without Me'. This album reflected his rise in fame and his relationship with his daughter and wife.this album was said to be alot less agressive that 'The Marshall Mathers LP'. 'The Eminem Show' was the biggest selling album of 2002.

The Start of His Recording Career

His career started between 1996-1999. He was signed by FBT productions and with them he recorded his debut album 'Infinite' in his first album he covered subjects such as raising his newborn daughter Hailie whith limi9ted amounts of money. at this time he was working in a local restaurant called Gilberts Lodge in St. Clair Shores cleaning dishes. His former boss refered to him as a model worker. he was living in a high crime neighbourhood with his girlfriend Kim Scott and their house was burgled many times. he soon started recording his second album 'The Slim Shady EP' things started to pick up for him as he his music got alot angrier. he developed an alter-ego Slim Shady in his rhymes. He used this alter-ego and talked about murder, rape, drugs and constantly breaking the law. This album constantly referes to drugs, sexual acts, mental instability and extreme cases of violence. It dealed with other more serious themes such as poverty, family problems and marital problems. after getting evicted from his home in 1997 he traveled to Los Angeles for the 'Rap Olimpics' where he came second. His album was sent to record producer Dr. Dre. He was offered a record deal by Dr. Dre and with him recorded 'The Slim Shady LP' which was one of the most sold albums of the year. The album went triple platnium withing a year. This was the start of his fame.

Background and Early Life

Ok, let's start off with some basics. Marshall Mathers was born on the 17th of October 1972, in St.Josephs, Missouri. His dad left when he was a child and he wrote to him in California regularly but all the letters were sent back stamped 'Return to Sender'. Marshall is of German, English, Polish, Scottish and Swiss decent. During childhood, Marshall and his mom Debbie moved house frequently and moved around between Missouri and Michigan. In Missouri they moved around places such as Savannah and Kansas City. They settled in western Michigan when Marshall was eleven. He attented Linchon High School. In Marshalls early teens he enjoyed story telling and aspired to be a comic book artist before he discovered Hip-Hop. he heard his first rap song when he was nine which his uncle Ronnie showed him. Ronnie committed suicide 10 years later. he began rapping when he was 14 with his high school friend, Mike Ruby. Mashall had his first run in with the cops when he and his friends were part of a drive by shooting with a paintball gun. This was the start of his rapping career.
